The Airborne Museum Hartensteijn in Oosterbeek tells the story of the brave men of General Urquhart. As scouts they were dropped behind enemy lines to capture the bridge at Arnhem.
The museum gives awareness of the story of the Battle of Arnhem. The capture of the bridge at Arnhem was accieved, but the troops failed to make radio contact with the Allies that were delayed at Nijmegen by German tanks. That way Operation Market Garden didn't succeed and General Urquhart and his men were surrounded by Germans. Eventually they had to cross the Rhine at Oosterbeek, to return to the southern part of the Netherlands, which was already liberated in late 1944. Great panoramas and reconstructed panels tell the story of the era.
